Materials & Movement

Are your watches durable?

Our watches may look delicate, but they are built to last. They feature a durable stainless steel case, sapphire crystal glass to guard against scratches and breakage, a reliable Swiss quartz Ronda movement (one of the most well-known Swiss quartz movement makers), water-resistant construction, and premium leather bands that age and soften beautifully.

Are your watches comfy?

Most of our watch straps are made out of genuine Italian leather (any other special materials will be noted on our product pages). While the leather starts off stiff, it will soften with wear and gradually mold to the shape of your wrist, getting comfier with time.

Where are your watches made?

We’ve built our supply chain in a way that allows us to source high quality materials while keeping our prices low. Our materials come from all over the world. For example: our products are designed in NYC, we purchase watch straps in France & Germany, our watch movements are Swiss, and our watches are assembled by our long-term production partner in Hong Kong.

Is your movement quartz or automatic?

March Hare watches are powered by Swiss quartz Ronda movements. Ronda is one of the most well-known Swiss quartz movement makers.

What's the difference between quartz and automatic movement?

While a quartz movement gets its power from a battery, an automatic movement relies on movement and energy from the wearer in order to tick. March Hare watches have quartz movement, which uses a battery as its energy source. The battery sends an electrical current through a small quartz crystal, causing the crystal to create vibrations that regulate the operation of the timepiece. Whatever the watch's position, its accuracy will always be identical. Both quartz and automatic watches are widely considered to be accurate. Some watch experts argue that quartz watches are more reliable because they are accurate within half a second, while it's possible for automatic watches to be off by a few seconds.

What kind of gold finish do you use on your watches? Will it fade?

The cases of our gold-colored watches are coated with a vibrant, highly resistant PVD gold finish. PVD is a vacuum coating process that uses titanium nitride to bond a thin layer of gold to stainless steel.

PVD finishes are widely regarded as one of the most durable coating techniques and are resistant to corrosion from regular wear. PVD coatings are often used by luxury watch brands like Rolex, Cartier & Longines.

Watch Straps

How do I change my watch strap?

Instructions for switching your strap are here: https://marchharewatches.com/pages/how-to-change-your-watch-strap.

Where do I find sizing information on your straps?

Strap lengths are listed at the top of each of our product pages in millimeters (the watch industry’s standard unit for communicating strap measurements). The first (longer) measurement listed is the length of the “tail” strap with the holes. The second (shorter) measurement is the length of the strap with the buckle.

How do I make sure your watch straps will fit?

The size chart on our watch strap FAQ page maps our strap lengths to wrist sizes (sometimes referred to as "bracelet sizes") to help you tell which bands will fit best. Don’t feel like breaking out the tape measure? We suggest going with our “Standard” length. It fits most of our customers, and you can exchange it as needed.

What if I need a longer or shorter strap than the "standard" size?

Our standard strap length comes with all watches. You can purchase more strap sizes on our strap collections page: https://marchharewatches.com/collections/straps

Can I customize the strap color of my watch?

Definitely. We offer a selection of interchangeable straps here.

Can I use a watch strap that you don't offer on your site?

Absolutely—you can swap the straps out yourself for both of our watches. The size you would want for our Kimsey watch is 10mm, and the size you would want for our Harriet watch is 14mm. Instructions for switching your strap are here.

Watch Care

Are your watches waterproof?

March Hare watches are water resistant, but not waterproof. This means that they will be fine if you splash water on them or get caught in the rain, but you should not swim or shower with your watch on. The exact level of water resistance will differ by model, and you can find this information on our product pages. However, the gist is the same: keep them out of water!

How often will I need to change my watch battery?

Our batteries should last you 36-48 months, but you may require a fresh battery as soon as one year after you purchase. You'll know it's time to replace the battery when your watch hands stop moving or when the watch starts slowing down (“losing time”). When that time comes, simply drop off your watch with a local jeweler and they will be able to replace the battery.

How often will I need to change my watch strap?

Our watch straps are made out of genuine Italian leather. They will soften with wear and gradually mold to the shape of your wrist. Don't worry if the straps crease with time. It’s expected and a sign of a well-loved piece!

It may be time to replace your watch strap if you notice cracking, discoloration, or shrinkage. We like to replace our watch band once a year to keep things looking tidy. How often you replace your band will depend on the watch model.

You can buy replacement straps from March Hare's website here.
